Hi this is my first visit. I want to share my story in hope for answers!
My son Thomas 13 yrs at the time, had a spinal stroke in may 2008, he was on holiday with his school in france, it happened out of the blue no illness or warnings. The dr's in france were good but we did not get a diagnosis until we returned to UK. Tom was at first paralyzed from the chest down this improved over a few days to his left side.
He has had numerous MRI MRA cat scans drips and blood tests. Thankfully he did get full movement back over a matter of months. The hospital could not tell us much, the lasting damage is, from were he was paralyzed (chest down) he can not feel pain! he can feel tickles but no pain. He had yet another MRI 3 weeks ago and we are waiting for the consultant to send us an appointment.

Do you know anything that could help us?

Hello Beverly,

I may have some useful information in regards to treatment, but I'm from the United States, so I can only recommend places in this area.

I would say that your best direction would be to seek out a neurosurgeon or neurovascular surgeon that is familiar and has experiences working with AVM's.

If you come to the United States, I would recommend the Mayo Clinic. They have dealt with the most known AVM cases that I know of. Or perhaps the Barrows in Phoenix, AZ.
