Default Help!!!

My son Kayne (12yrs) fell off his skate board on 3-30-09. My husband and I were on our way home when his mom called to advise of his accident. Kayne was in his room crying very hard while holding his side. I just knew something was wrong because he is not one to complain. We took him to the hospital in our vehicle. We are both firefighter/EMT's and live very close to the hospital. We
hen we arrived we had a hard time with staff. She advised we would have a long wait and be put in the minor cuts and colds area. I called my other son (9yrs)to get more detail and was advised Kayne passed out "forever"! He was in so much pain that eventually a doctor picked him up in the waiting area and carried him back. He advised he needed to go into a regular ER room and be on morphine asap. We ended up with another doctor. She did an X-ray. They came back and advised it had a shadow close to the area of his injury. They ended up doing another X-ray and 2 Ct's. They just kept seeing this "shadow"! Finally they ordered a MRI. The MRI showed a AVM in his spinal column close to his injury site. We were advised that she had talked it over with a local Neurosurgion who advised he was not comfortable seeing a child. We were told we could go home but needed to call our pediatrician the next day for a referal. We live in Evansville,In. which is southwestern Indiana close to Kentucky. We were refered to Rileys hospital in Indianapolis. We could be seen a few days latter. In between this time Kayne lost all feeling in his feet. It would come and go and rotate between total numbness and tingeling. I called the on call doctor at Rileys. He advised probably no big deal and could just wait untill his appointment. The doctor we ended up with did not seem very compasionate and we just did not click well with her. She was very abrupt in the appointment and did not believe that he really had an AVM. She left the room to view the MRI films I brought and returned to advise he did have one. While doing her exam she pressed on his back and he would scream. She advised us that he seemed like a high strung and on the edge kind of child. Actually he is just the opposite!!! WOW! She put him on valumn. When I advised her of his feet being numb a couple days before she advised waqs not a symptom of AVM and was strange. I don't know what she was getting at. She just gave an empression that she thought he was a "drama queen"! He ! is reall y not. The other red flag was when we would ask her about how may patients she had seen or operated on with this condition, she avoided our questions. Her opinion was to have Kayne on valumn and lortabs for a few weeks without much activity and come back latter. I am just not confident that he is getting the right care from someone with experience! From my research I found that headaches and paralysis are main symptoms. So what was she talking about that it was not a symptom? UGHHHH I put an appointment request in for Mayo clinic in Rochester Mn. and will wait untill I hear from them about insurance capatability. Untill then I would love to hear of any doctors that know a lot about this condition. Please help!!!
